En 1938, les tchèques Guillermo et Catalina Pollak sont arrivés au Chili. La beauté exceptionnelle de Pucón enchanta le couple. Ils avaient trouvé leur nouvelle maison. Commençant petit, ils ont d'abord pris la direction de l'Hôtel Playa, puis plus tard ont acquis la concession du chalet de ski sur le volcan Villarrica. Malheureusement, leurs efforts pour se mettre en place ont été entravées lorsque l'Hôtel Playa brûla et le chalet de ski a été détruit par l'éruption volcanique de 1949. Toutefois, la propriété qui allait devenir Antumalal avaient déjà été achetée. Les habitants locaux ne voulaient pas de cette terre aride et rocailleuse comme il n'y avait pas de bonne végétation pour le pâturage des moutons. Le couple a construit un petit café au bord du lac. Catalina et sa mère Davita ont commencés à faire des gâteaux et des pâtisseries à l'aide des recettes traditionnelles tchèques. En l'honneur des couchers de soleil extraordinaires sur le lac, le couple appela le lieu Antumalal, ce qui signifie Corral du Soleil dans la langue Mapundungun. Les touristes viennent par bateau pour goûter aux délices du café. Un jour, le Président du Chili, Gabriel González Videla, et son entourage s'est rendu sur l'eau pour visiter le café. Don Guillermo, plein d'enthousiasme pour son rêve de construire un hôtel sur le site magnifique, approcha le président pour une demande de prêt pour construire une œuvre d'architecture qui ferait du Chili un pays fier. Videla fut impressionné, et aida Don Guillermo a obtenir son premier prêt. Ainsi est né l'hôtel Antumalal. L'hôtel que vous appréciez aujourd'hui est un témoignage de la persévérance de Guillermo, Catalina et Davita. Au fil des ans, de nombreux invités tels que la reine Elizabeth d'Angleterre, Neil Armstrong, James Stewart, Adlai Stevenson, Barry Goldwater, et Emma Thompson ont séjourné dans cet hôtel. Aujourd'hui, la tradition familiale se poursuit, et la magie de Antumalal, avec sa réputation pour un service personnalisé, continue de ravir les grands voyageurs du monde entier.

descriptionIn 1938, Czech newlyweds Guillermo and Catalina Pollak arrived in Chile. The outstanding beauty of Pucón enchanted the couple. They had found their new home. Starting small, they took over the management of the Playa Hotel, and then later gained concession of the ski lodge on the Villarrica Volcano. Unfortunately their efforts to establish themselves were impeded when the Playa Hotel burned down and the ski lodge was destroyed in the volcanic eruption of 1949. However, the property that was to become Antumalal had already been purchased. Locals placed little value on the arid and rocky land as it lacked the good vegetation needed for grazing sheep. The couple built a small café by the lake. Catalina and her mother Davita began making cakes and pastries using traditional Czech recipes. In honor of the extraordinary sunsets over the lake, the couple called the place Antumalal, meaning Corral of the Sun in the Mapundungun language. Summer tourists travelled by boat to sample the delights of the café. One day the President of Chile, Gabriel González Videla, and his entourage travelled over the water to visit the café. Don Guillermo, full of enthusiasm for his dream to build a hotel on the beautiful site, approached the president with a request for a loan to build a work of architecture that would make Chile proud. Videla was impressed, and helped Don Guillermo get his first loan. Thus the Hotel Antumalal was born. The hotel you enjoy today is a testament to the perseverance of Guillermo, Catalina and Davita. As the years passed the Antumalal’s reputation grew and it has become one of the premier destination hotels in Chile. Many noteworthy guests such as Queen Elizabeth of England, Neil Armstrong, James Stewart, Adlai Stevenson, Barry Goldwater, and Emma Thompson have stayed here. Today the family tradition continues, and the magic of the Antumalal, along with its reputation for personalized service, continues to delight travelers from around the world.

meta_description_for_layoutIn 1938, Czech newlyweds Guillermo and Catalina Pollak arrived in Chile. The outstanding beauty of Pucón enchanted the couple. They had found their new home. Starting small, they took over the management of the Playa Hotel, and then later gained concession of the ski lodge on the Villarrica Volcano. Unfortunately their efforts to establish themselves were impeded when the Playa Hotel burned down and the ski lodge was destroyed in the volcanic eruption of 1949. However, the property that was to become Antumalal had already been purchased. Locals placed little value on the arid and rocky land as it lacked the good vegetation needed for grazing sheep. The couple built a small café by the lake. Catalina and her mother Davita began making cakes and pastries using traditional Czech recipes. In honor of the extraordinary sunsets over the lake, the couple called the place Antumalal, meaning Corral of the Sun in the Mapundungun language. Summer tourists travelled by boat to sample the delights of the café. One day the President of Chile, Gabriel González Videla, and his entourage travelled over the water to visit the café. Don Guillermo, full of enthusiasm for his dream to build a hotel on the beautiful site, approached the president with a request for a loan to build a work of architecture that would make Chile proud. Videla was impressed, and helped Don Guillermo get his first loan. Thus the Hotel Antumalal was born. The hotel you enjoy today is a testament to the perseverance of Guillermo, Catalina and Davita. As the years passed the Antumalal’s reputation grew and it has become one of the premier destination hotels in Chile. Many noteworthy guests such as Queen Elizabeth of England, Neil Armstrong, James Stewart, Adlai Stevenson, Barry Goldwater, and Emma Thompson have stayed here. Today the family tradition continues, and the magic of the Antumalal, along with its reputation for personalized service, continues to delight travelers from around the world.
